Permits

The Township adopted an amended Zoning Ordinance, # 110 in November 2003. This ordinance regulates the use, intensity of use, size and location of buildings and other structures, as well as establishing regulations for land use by trades, industry, recreation and public activities. Copies of the ordinance are available for review or purchase at the municipal building. Pocono Township adopted Ordinance #113, the uniform Construction Code Act of PA Act 45 in April 2004. This ordinance ensures that all; construction is subject to codes such as the International Building Code and the International Residential Code.  Pocono Township has contracted with Building Inspection Underwriters, Inc. for building code inspections. Questions regarding the provisions of this ordinance Building Inspection Underwriters at the Pocono Township Municipal Building.

BIU Inspectors are available at the Pocono Township Municipal Building from 8am to 10am and 3pm to 4pm, Monday through Friday.                           Phone # 570-629-1922 Ext. 218

 The permit process is as follows:

• Zoning application and supportive documents are presented to the Zoning Officer.
• The Zoning Officer reviews the application, subsequently when the zoning application can be approved the Zoning Permit is issued.
• A copy of the Zoning Permit is then given to the Certified Building Code Officer, who then makes the appropriate contact and initiates the Building and Construction portion of the permit process, such as Plan Review and the required forms completed by the contractor of record.

• Alterations or additions to Existing Structures
• Vendors/Peddling/Solicitation
• Occupancy
• Commercial Construction
• Residential Construction
• Pumper/Hauler
• Burning
• Swimming Pools
• Road Encroachments & Driveway for Township Roads
• Sheds
• Decks

Appeals to the Zoning Hearing Board may be submitted pursuant to the  guidelines of Section 807 of the Pocono Township Zoning Ordinance and Pennsylvania Municipal Planning Code.
